International Bike to School Day AND New Jersey Walk & Bike to School Week!

3 May

May is Bike Month, and schools across the state are “getting in gear” by encouraging kids to walk and bike to school with two upcoming events: National Bike to School Day (May 9) and Bike & Walk to School Week (May 21-25). Don’t be left behind — get your school walking and rolling.

GMTMA is here to help you and your school get a program or project off the ground. We’d love to work with you on a walking/biking event, educational safety assemblies for kids of all ages, and more. Contact us at rhersh@gmtma.org and we’ll walk you through it!

If you’re already working on a project, we want to hear from you! Let us know at rhersh@gmtma.org.
And if your school isn’t involved but you want to be, also let us know — we can help! Email us at rhersh@gmtma.org.

About New Jersey Safe Routes to School

New Jersey’s Safe Routes to School program is part of a nationwide effort to make walking and bicycling to school safer and more accessible for children, and to increase the number of school children (K-8) who choose to walk or bike to school.  The SRTS program is designed to enhance the well-being and health of school children, while easing traffic congestion near schools and improving air quality.

The New Jersey of Department of Transportation has partnered with the Greater Mercer TMA to administer a new statewide education and encouragement program using Safe Routes to School Federal SAFETEA-LU funds. The goal of the program is to educate and encourage more children to walk and bicycle to school.

The goal of New Jersey’s Safe Routes to School Program  is to assist New Jersey communities in developing and implementing projects and programs that encourage walking and bicycling to school while enhancing the safety of these trips.
